Project: OUTDOOR LIVING

This garden has been featured in the Toronto Star and Gardening Life Magazine. An extremely small urban space of 23' x 18' was the setting of this project. Attention to detail was of utmost importance.

A simple purple, silver and green colour scheme with limited varieties of plants, but high quantities of each; kept the very focal gardens simple in visual effect. Clean lines and square elements resulted in a feeling of an expanded space. Tumbled pavers were used for the patio and complimentary precast walls created surrounding planting pockets.

The walls formed elevated planters and double as a seating wall for entertaining. Natural stone steps and coping around the water feature added interest and detail. The custom mortared wall includes a water weir for a soothing backdrop. Water lilies add some striking colour contrast against the black bottom reflecting pool.

An unsightly garage wall is hidden by an espalier smoke bush and ornamental grasses in a raised planter. The pergola reaching the full width of the dining space provides privacy and vertical interest in the yard. Climbing vines happily make their way up the posts.

Landscape Lighting accents the landscape and allows for evening dinner parties.

A new stainless built in BBQ seamlessly blends into the adjacent planter and serves as an outdoor kitchen. A large natural stone counter is a staging space for preparing meals.

A custom tongue and groove cedar fence finishes the surrounding area and acts as a perfect backdrop to the carefully selected plants. Spring bulbs are key to this design - purple allium and tulips put on a plentiful show in early spring.
